Karachi is a mystery, a poetry, an expression; heartbreaking yet so beautiful. A city once remembered as the ‘Paris of the East’, ‘Bride of the Cities’, ‘Groovy Karachi’ and ‘The City of Lights’, now deemed as the concrete jungle and unliveable. Despite this, the lovers of Karachi find ways to celebrate the beauty within its corners, spaces, and noises that may be ugly and loud to others.

Karachi in Shambles is a discussion and artmaking session by Rutaba Syed which highlights what we can’t stand anymore, the beauty within that, as well as all that is lost in translation when it comes to loving/living the city.

Join us in a discussion of what resilience, suffering, and agency in the city means to us and what does it mean to find love and nurturing in the city. A moderated discussion with lovers of Karachi who move between art mediums and forms but keep the city at the heart of their practice – Rutaba Syed, Beenish Sarfaraz, S.M. Raza and Ozair B. Nasir.
