Composition of Layered Expressions
Project Overview
A series of workshops and exhibition in collaboration with Karachi Down Syndrome Program (KDSP)
In collaboration with the students at Karachi Down Syndrome Program (KDSP), we explored social-emotional learning and emotive vocabulary, through a series of interactive workshops, culminating in an exhibition to celebrating their unique perspectives and talents.
In four sessions, students of diverse age groups co-created a safe space to explore joy, anger, and self-compassion through self and collective expression. We documented the journey of these sessions and captured their vibrant personalities and emotions through poetry that encapsulates the Stephen K. Levine theory of using poetry as creative agency.
The artworks focus on each individual’s journey around their emotions. As Pam Holland expresses, “Art speaks where words are unable to explain.” Each piece invites you to look beyond the surface, to discover the person behind the first few layers. It's a chapter in their story, a deeper dig towards peeling off an onion skin.
All the works were showcased as part of the exhibition "Rangon Ki Lehr" at VM Art Gallery on 27th April, 2024.
